Master’s Degree Program "Structural Geology and Tectonics, Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology"

In today's world, Earth scientists are increasingly called upon to address the complex challenges arising from growing human needs and activities. Responding to these challenges and ensuring sustainable development requires a broad scientific perspective and a wide range of knowledge and skills, therefore the Department of Geology and Geoenvironment of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens is pleased to announce the establishment of the new Master’s Degree Program "Stuctural Geology and Tectonics, Hydrogeology, and Engineering Geology".

The program addresses the urgent need for interdisciplinary approaches to tackle complex challenges posed by the rapid economic and technological development, population growth and migration, and increasing urbanization of the modern era. These conditions entail increased demands for raw materials and energy resources, intensified construction activity, environmental degradation, and exposure to natural and technological hazards.

The program aims to promote research and to specialize students at the Master's level (M.Sc.) and potentially at the doctoral level (PhD), providing them with the necessary tools for their further scientific and professional careers, as well as to create a well-trained social group with specialized knowledge and skills, and with increased awareness of environmental issues.

The program is open to graduates holding a Bachelor's Degree in Geology and Geosciences or related disciplines obtained in a recognized Institution in Greece or abroad, as well as graduates of Technological Educational Institutes with a related field of study.

The duration of the Program is three (3) academic semesters and combines live and online lectures, synchronous and asynchronous teaching methodologies with exercises and essays, seminars, and educational activities for learning and familiarizing oneself with new technologies and scientific methods.
